Although the videos that promote this app from the company on Youtube says that there is no change in quality, that IS NOT TRUE! The application DOES RE-ENCODE the videos and the audio part, While it preserves the video aspect size (1080,or 4K) it re-encodes to a lower bitrate NOT producing the same quality. Visually it may not seem detectable but it does produce an inferior quality than the source video

When you change the content of a video, there is no choice but to re-encode, & every time you (re)encode video you lose quality, even if you maintain the exact same frame size & bit rate. It's call generational loss, FWIW. There are a few editors that let you do smart rendering, where Only the parts that change, e.g. transitions, are re-encoded, but that doesn't always work, often requires the original to be encoded in a certain format, sometimes with a specific encoder. And there are a few editors that just do cuts & joins at I frames [key frames], with no transitions of FX at all, & not doing any encoding whatsoever, e.g.

mike,
Thanks for the explanation.
'There are a few editors that let you do smart rendering, '
'editors that just do cuts & joins at I frames'
Can you suggest some editors, preferably free or GAOTD, that that do the above.

mike, so are you agreeing that the videos claims are misleading or not? high end video editors work using lossless video codecs input and processing/reprocessing and only re-encode to a lossy compression MPEG2/MPEG4/HEVC when it comes to producing the final render for broadcast and distribution. Professionals may render to a lossless HDR format as a master archive copy and then transcode for specific channels, DTV-T, DTV-S, DTV-C online streaming services in UHD/FHD/HD/SD it is easily possible to have the entire edit process be a single generation and provided the original input content is in lossless HDR format then it is entirely plausable for the frames that remain untouched will not be re-encoded or resampled at any point until the after the final master render. Now if the edits are done as passes of FFMPEG processing which is FAR MORE likely for this class of tool rather than an actual editor that processes video frames itself they could choose to use huffyuv or better lossless video codecs and flac lossless video codecs for intermediate passes... The times I have seen these so called editors doing something really stupid like doing the edit rendering to an AVI file using an Old Microsoft Video for windows codec and then re-encoding that into the selected output codec. They should do the edit renders with lossless codecs... Similar to how say Audacity stores the current multi-track data in 32bit lossless format and not in some stupid MP3 or OGG lossily compressed format. It increases working space required and if one saves the project in lossless format it increases the size of the project but in video editors it does prevent concerns over MPEG P,B,I frames which should not be involved in the actual editing. A proper video editor should be working on the basis that EVERY frame is a key frame and not dependant upon what went before or is going to come after... that is the job of a lossy codec not a video frame level editor.
What you seem to be talking about are not VIDEO editors but MP4 stream editors or MPEG2 stream editors. True video editors are codec agnostic.
You import a video and the importing renders the input video to a lossless 100% keyframe stream of frames and no matter what edting is done the frames are processed but never re-encoded into a different format until the final render to either a lossless archive master or the highest quality you are every likely to need lossily encoded master.
